Explosion hits Tripoli

Tripoli - Five loud explosions rocked the eastern region of Libya on Monday, April 25 evening local time. But it is unclear the exact location of the blast.

"We heard three loud explosions and smoke also soared after the explosion occurred. The smoke was moving closer to us," said a resident of Tripoli, as quoted by AFP on Tuesday (26/04/2011).

Two other explosions are also heard in the same region where the first explosion occurred in the Ain Zara. Two further explosions occurred minutes after the first explosion.

Not long after Al-Jamahiriya Television reported the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) conducted air strikes in the area of ​​Ain ​​Zara. The attack was targeted against military facilities in the district of Ain ​​Zara and Bir al-Ghanam.

According to a military statement quoted by the television Al-Jamahiriya, there are victims in this attack, but it is unclear how much.

On Monday, the office of Muammar Gaddafi in Tripoli, destroyed by a NATO airstrike. While the explosions and the roar of aircraft engines are still often heard in Tripoli airspace.
